My own input, after having tried to make my own DIY stand, is that the difficult part is making an effective clamp. So as appealing as DIY is, my advice is just to get a Park PCS-10 and save yourself the hassle - when you price out what it costs to make something comparably nice (and the labor hours involved) there's not much difference, and the Park is a quality tool that will give you many years of service.
