I know a bunch of messengers, aka dudes who deliver food and legal documents on bikes for a living and a ton of them ride fixed with no brakes b/c 'muh cadence' and 'its way cheaper to maintain a sick fixie then a sick other bike' / I'd rather spend my money on drugs so I can ride my bike on drugs to make more money for drugs.
I was wondering whether or not these guys were hipsters but based on your anecdotal evidence, I guess they're just good at bikes and fixies are how they do.
I do really appreciate the comment about 'authenticity while still being consumers'. That seems to sum up what I've seen of that movement pretty well.
