Old passenger cars in their final years of service used to be commonly found in 11 2nd class 8 seats compartments or 9 first class 6 seats compartments configuration. Most if not all have been scrapped, and only a few coach configuration are left.
The thing is, for long distance, most people would rather not have to deal with sharing leg space and a tablet with a stranger. Plus sometimes you really need to get that booger out.
The Lacroix 1st class actually has those kinda neat 4 seats pods. Too bad they ruined the comfy with the neighboring two seats. It's nice when can get one for yourself (mostly empty early trains in the summer for instance).
The seats and carpets still aged awfully and the seats are still worthless.
