the bar ends on crust are like $100 which is about what Shimano bar ends cost. It's still the idea system (well downtube for me) for a touring bike.

It's the exact same as fixiefaggotry. In the height of the craze, huge numbers of people got caught up in wasting money on bikes that they eventually realised they didn't even like much, that didn't suit what they wanted a bicycle to be. They were lacking utility and not comfortable to ride. This version of fixiefaggotry is a backlash to that trend and equally retarded because it takes the opposite stance in an equally extreme way and applies the same money wasting fashion angle to it.
But, just like fixies, high quality sport touring bikes, are excellent bikes, and totally valid for the niche they fill and a lot of that stuff isn't really a waste of money it's just really good.
I even like unracer bikes but 90% of people I see riding them look stupid.
