I think an e-bike is not a bad idea but $1000 probably isn't enough to get one worth it.
You'll have a lot more fun on a -good- regular bike than a shit tier e-bike that just breaks.
the most basic tell for a good new bike is being 8/9/10/11 spd not 7. new 7 speed bikes basically all suck.
Pic related for $800 is probably peak value casual bike and where diminishing returns kicks in for quality on the spec.
