>>1893447here is a historic map of the original lines. the relevant ones for modern day use are from victoria to that metchosin stop and up from there to nanaimo. sadly the sydney ones were torn up a few decades ago. the spur line to port alberni could be used for logging transport but likely won't happen because we are begging for scraps here. the issue is that the tracks need a lot of repair work and likely new bridges and trestles but it's still far less than getting new ROW, and as I mentioned it used to be a dual track railway up to and past that metchosin spot but the other rail was turned into a rail trail. Essentially I believe the chance of it being turned into a commuter railway again are 5% or lower because it would require provincial funding of at least 500 million which they will spend on vancouver's transit budget first.
