For example it will insist that Tokyo - Nikko is not covered under Japan Rail Pass because the Tobu line isn't, even though you can take the Shinkansen to Utsunomiya and then the Nikko line to Nikko, and do it entirely with Japan Rail Pass.
>>2049231It's not that you can't make the 1 week pass pay off, but it's rarely the best option when you do. I added a modified version of one of my itineraries that is 7 days instead of 14 and does everything as a daytrip from Tokyo(which isn't how I usually do things). It pays off, but it loses to buying the Niigata Nagano Area Pass for 5 days and doing the remaining 2 days on separate tickets. (TAP = Tohoku Area Pass, TWP = Tokyo Wide Pass)
