>>975291I think that people's reaction depends on the tone of the bell. I have three different bells, two Cranes and pic related. The brass Crane has a really high pitched ding, maybe even painfully high pitched for anyone under 20, and it seems to cause people to react randomly and kids to cry. The other Crane is enameled and strikes a lower and kinda somber note. People react okay to it.
Pic related was made in the 50s or 60s in Germany, and has a really pleasant ring to it, like a nice old telephone. People react incredibly well to it, and I think that maybe the sound is associated with bicycle in older people's heads.
