It's seen as less masculine to bee into the details of things, to appear [again to them] as any kind of prissy.
The same people who buck the trend and drink what they like regardless of social pressure, are the same sort of spirit who buck the trend and ride bikes, despite the social pressure. (And in the US, your average citizen, especially older people, regard bikes are something for kids, and that you're a loser if you ride a bike and all that. 'A boy and his car' is very much a part of our culture still.)
That, and you're almost never gonna get a DUI on a bike, I guess, so that probably encourages it to a degree.
