I ride with a single chainring and /n/ shits on it.
Yes, you get a more usable range with an extra front gear or two, but I simply don't need it. People ride fixies fast, I have 8 or nine gears out back and have no problem.
I primarily did it for a cleaner look. The new chainring and cranks are in the mail. The cable housings have also been shortened.

I'm beyond thankful for you posting the exact picture that I needed.
I bought this '94 raleigh 10 years ago and rode the piss out of it. I rebuilt it over summer and got roasted here. One of th main issues was cable housing. Your picture addresses the brake housing perfectly. I left it long because I wanted excess when I swap brakes out soon.
Can to advise on the rear derailleur housing length? I'll fix it tonight when I get to the rear brakes.

What are th e other major flaws that you see?
