If you need a proof of concept, the Kestrel 500SCi came out 31 years ago - as long as you as don't care about the frame being heavier because it needs to be overbuilt there's no reason this can't work acceptably and survive. To Hambini's complaint about it being less efficient, it's a hybrid for people with too much money, not for cyclists who care about efficiency. The thing I think is really terrible about this is that it's (needlessly) 1x only.
