I'd like to bring to /n/'s attention a very rarely used tail configuration that could be highly exploitable.
The "K-tail" can be thought of as either a double T-tail or a T-tail mounted atop a V-tail, potentially combining the advantages of both in the latter case. The vertical fins can be completely vertical as in the OMA SUD Skycar (pic related), or angled outward in a manner similar to a V-tail (I've seen a concept for a propfan airliner that had this configuration).
The major advantages of this configuration could be that it is very structurally sound, can allow for very wide horizontal tail surfaces (potentially reducing wingspan), and can allow for an engine to be mounted externally between the vertical fins thus eliminating the need for a complex S-duct system that makes maintenance difficult.
What is /n/'s opinion?
