Again, I only warned against it for touring because I've tried loading a couple of 531c bikes and they flexed badly. It's not just hearsay.
But as you say, and I have said from the start, the realm of baguette and salami in a carradice bag or maybe even a few changes of clothes between hotels, is really the provenance of any road bike.
