There are definitely enough interchanges. The problem is that the timetables of national railways and local transport don't fit each other at all. That of course isn't a problem in the city during the day. Buses and trams depart every ten to fifteen minutes.

But try to come home with the last train of the night, which arrives 4 (four) minutes before the night busses depart from the central bus terminal - 700m away from the train station. For me that either means walking all the way home, waiting an hour for the next bus, or sprinting a little over a kilometer in six minutes with all the baggage I have on me, plus possible intoxication. This plan basically depends on the night bus being a few minutes late.

Or take pic related for example. Trains in both directions arrive and depart very close to the top of the hour and the half hour in this town. Yet bus departures are spread out evenly over the course of an hour. Sometimes there's just like three busses per day. That means depending on your route, you're stuck waiting 45 minutes or more for the next bus, just because the transport authority is too shitty to come up with a sensible timetable.

It would be so great if all those busses arrived shortly before the first train and departed shortly after the second. Just enough time to change to wherever you want to go.

Here is a pic of the digital departures board, once again showing the terrible spaced-out distribution of the buses. All the infrastructure is there and it is never being used at the same time. The bus terminal is a fairly recent addition. I think it was built for or shorty after the Expo 2000 world's fair. It seems like they wanted to have an integrated schedule and they built the terminal for it, but they never got around to changing the schedule.
