My spring ride every road progress is slowing. The further you get from home the more of the ride is spent just getting there and back. Up to about 2/3 of a ride in travel time, but riding is riding and that is the part of the ride that is mostly straight lines and faster.
This year I've been doing multiple passes for each area rather than being super methodical. More about maintaining a good flow, backtracking and u-turns mess that up. Though its impossible to remember what I have and haven't covered so I need to make route for every ride. I just have the garmin display the route instead of actively navigating it. The gps goes nuts trying to navigate a convoluted route.
I'm saving the north / south part of a few closer grid layout areas for later, preferably a Sunday. Its a huge pain in the ass repeatedly crossing main roads without traffic lights when its busy. As soon as many drivers see a cyclist they cut their speed, very frustrating.
