Ownership of the S-Bahn tracks in West Berlin was handed over from the Deutsche Reichsbahn to the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, but with no rolling stock, they had to buy them in. These things look like classic 1980s design, but they're also god awfully ugly. As much as the 1980s aesthetic is pretty interesting, it's not a nice looking train.
