If you buy a sailboat you can almost cut the fuel price out of the equation(if you have decent wind) but the initial price will be probably higher than a similar length motorboat.
Motorboats also usually have more living space for the same hull length than sailboats, but are also a lot less capable out on the sea.
Sailboats are really great from my experience: Having full control over a big boat tilted 45°, with waves rushing by is amazing
