City concillors of CSU and voting block suggest meme bus for Munich
https://www.br.de/nachrichten/bayern/schienen-fuehrer-und-oberleitungslose-china-tram-fuer-muenchen,RI9o7U1Munich councilwoman Dorothea Wiepcke suggested testing the Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (ART) in the city. ART is marketed as a driverless, trackless, wireless battery tram.
More precisely, it is an articulated battery bus with an AI following specific markings on the road. It would require two dedicated lanes with the markings. Top speed is 70 km/h. Capacity is either 307 or 500 passengers, which is quite impressive for an articulated bus.
The main arguments are cheap and comparatively uninvasive track construction. The bus may also operate more quielty than a tram. The ART requires frequent reloading, since it can only go 40 kilometers before requiring a recharge. The article didn't say anything about the construction and operating cost of dedicated recharging stations.
A suggested track would lead from metro terminus Neuperlach Süd via autobahn A8 to Jochen-Schweizer Arena in the suburb of Taufkirchen, serving two university campuses on the way.
