velomobiles are taking off, steadily but slowly. The industry is merely ~17 years old. Right now there are a few thousand riding around the world, mostly in the Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia etc. The reason why it's taking off slowly is because lack of awareness. Most people simply have never seen it or understand what it is when they do see one. There is no real marketing campaign going on except by word of mouth. These companies that make them are small. They make about 2 a week, mostly by hand. What the industry needs is a venture capitalist that is willing to increase production and lower the price to 5k.
