Presentation matters a lot because most people don't know exactly how nice a bike is or isn't, only how nice it looks in the pictures. But if youve got a nice piece then ultimately I'd agree, a buyer who knows will know better than to judge it from some poopy on the chain stays.
I kinda like selling bikes because I get to talk about the whip to potential buyers, get them excited. Last time I sold a touring bike the buyer offered to take me on a flight in his private airplane, we still email each other our bike tour journal entries now and then
