Since fuel is an essential war time resource, we should reduce consumption wherever it is no absolutely necessary. If an electric powered train can transport people around the country, it should replace a fuel consuming airplane or car as the primary means of transportation.
Furthermore, the reduction in pollution makes for healthier citizens, which means fitter and better soldiers too!
Call me insane, but when we got to fight another world war, they'll wish they had listened!
