>>1748186>>1748189>>1748191I have a theory that most single family detached only sentiment in the US comes from a view of "Density = NYC and New York Sucks."
Theres a wide variety of housing stock you simply arent allowed to build anymore between a single family detached and shoving you, your wife and your three kids in a two bedroom apartment. Hell a lot of outlying towns especially those with older surviving housing stock are far from being built entirely of single family homes. Heres an example of a duplex in Royersford, Pennsylvania (a town that can only really be considered suburban because of very recent sprawl in the philly metro. 20 years ago it was the country), not implementing single family detached only zoning means near the town center a decent amount of, but far from all, residences will look like this. And lets be honest it probably makes a lot more economic sense for someone just getting established to rent/own a unit in one of these rather than a detached home if they really need space for a family. Nothing's stopping them from saving up cash and buying a bigger single family if they need it later down the line
