take a 10 km distance
atb no fucks given 30
atb chilling out 25 minites
atb pushing it just a little 20 minites
to cover that distance in any shorter time on an atb is hard work cardio wise
keeping in mind that an average speed is going to be much lower than peak speed
so going all out I may be hitting 40 kph for a couple of sections but most of the time ill be doing 30 ish
cardio wise its much easyer to do 40 kph on a road bike than an ATB, as getting to 60 kph down hill (a more upright posture limits speed to 50 kph)
however in practice part of keeping a high average speed is avoiding slowing down at all costs, this means dodgeing anything and anyone that gets in your way
this is signifcantly harder on a bike that has twichy frame geometry and narrow tires, and a rideing posture that reduces enviromental awareness
haveing to constanly guard against the handleing charictersics of a bike is no fun, and it gets worst at speed
>>1755329one cursed day on a dead flat road I encountered a wind so strong that my full body weight and muscular effort along with 24 gear inches did noing to move the bike, had to walk insead
on the way back was nuts tho, 20 ish kph wihout haveing to pedal at all + some hectic gusts
