What have we been doing all these years building overpasses? Clearly, the best solution is to add the distance for the ascent/descent *outside* the route! Why travel towards your destination while climbing a grade when you could travel towards your destination, turn 90 degrees, climb a grade that's orthogonal to your route, clear the obstruction, and then come back before continuing in the direction you were going? So brilliant. I'm glad these based Chinese engineers will be designing all of our infrastructure soon. Surely these couldn't be a deliberate waste of resources to generate more money for the state-owned concrete and construction companies.
