The only thing a helmet does is it increases the chances of your brain remaining in your skull once your head crashes onto something. You're still going to suffer from just about the same trauma and concussion that you would without a helmet. But at least you won't have to deal with having your brain squirt out of your cranium like an egg that was dropped on the floor.
