It doesn't even actually not make sense, total pieces of shit or even nice shitters are a valid niche of a packhorse/donkey alternative, and then a way to cruise that's faster than walking. They are sensible vehicles. A relatively fit person can get around easily/quickly on one and just has to not be racing cars in their head and not hold shame in their heart from walking up hills.
