Right now, mtbs have all the clearance then want and they are still increasing Q factor by pedals, cleats and cranks and thus making them even more uncomfortable to pedal at higher cadence (or any cadence), apperently its for stability at downhill but that was never such an important factor as is bar width, HA etc.
