Yes. Tokyoites and mid Tohoku city dwellers are cold. You'll see people staring and when they are not staring everyone gives you a WIDE berth. I would hate to ruin the experience for other people. So i'll try and tone down on the Japanese gripes unless asked. If anyone is interested in a general japanese mindset, I would recommend Shogun by James Clavell. Read that after I got back and it felt like a similar experience.
