Ive only had minor scrapes over the last 2-3 years, my bike on the otherhand has suffered tremendously. if i dont feel comfortable, i stop at a downhill or technical section and slowly coast down. One time from a complete standstill to only a few seconds going downhill, i went over the bars. Furthermore, my bike is basically a walmart mt bike with only small suspension in the front and hardtail back with 26.5 in wheels. I didnt learn until recently that you should have low tire PSI at like 20-25, i would always go out on like 50-60 psi. Ive learned that for some obstacles you need speed to roll through some obstacles/rock gardens , but because i have to ride so far to get to my trails, i always try to go back in one piece, so im risk averse, bad at mt biking, and the trails i have access to dont have jumps and are not as technical or crazy as jumps and drops I see videos of
