>>1408197The bike pictured is the only one I own.
52/18 (77 gear inches), but I don't go on super long rides for my training, usually only 20-60km. Pic related is at Lower Beechmont, which is a 7km climb at 6% avg, surrounded by terrain which is also hilly.
I looked up Walnut Creek to Mt Diablo. Definitely could be fixie territory if you're a crazy cunt, because the ride isn't too long, but your main problem is that Mt Diablo has a >10% grade. I reckon it would be fixie territory if you have a low gear ratio, and wide bars or bullhorns. Definitely doable if you have the endurance to stay out of the saddle for 10km and just grind at low cadence. Plus your strength will improve a lot if you ride fixed up mountains.
Trust me when I say low gearing though. What is low depends on your strength so I can't say, but I have a 12% hill that's only 600m long on my daily ride and it takes a max effort to even stay on the bike. I think for your terrain I would be able to do it 46/18.
