Simply, an alloy road bike.
I tried to ride a "comfy" bike, a TokyoBike, and it didn't work out for me. The UK doesn't have very good cycling infrastructure outside of London, and the streets are clogged with SUVs and remapped Golf GTIs.
I needed a bike that was fairly quick and could get out of danger sharpish. I am not particularly fast, I'll average 26km/h on a straight, and don't wear lycra or a helmet.
I don't use this to ride for work, that's too far, so I'll ride in the evenings and weekend for exercise and leisure.
I hope the UK improves it's cycling infrastructure so I can ride a Dutch style bike or Brompton. But that's probably never going to happen
