>>1842524Damn, doesn’t sound the worst for WSF, and 6 months-2 years ain’t that long to find a home boat.
I’ve just seen so many guys being consoomers and addicted to retail therapy or new car notes, as if it justifies spending 50-66% of their existence at work. I’m trying to start a family, and being gone excessively doesn’t justify a 6 figure income for me, personally. I also feel stagnant engineering on tugs, as i’m seldom learning on the job anymore.
Thanks for sharing that wisdom of yours. I’ll keep grinding my teeth in the meantime, and look between MEBA and definitely call up firefighting departments next time I’m off.
And I’ll say it again, fuuuuck sailing Alaska. Spent my first year on tugs crossing the Gulf of Alaska.
>”hey anon, do you get seasick?”>no, I’ve been working on skiffs for 2 years. I’m golden. >”alright, sending you to Alaska this week for a couple months”Spent my first hitch on tugs, in December, spending Christmas and New Year’s, (with no holiday pay, since I was under my 90 days) greener than babyshit from getting our asses kicked. Had the pleasure of working for one of the most miserable boomer captains I’ve ever met in my career. He prided himself on “breaking” and abusing new hands. I’m glad the maritime culture is slowly changing. Can’t spend 20 years shooting your self in the foot, and wondering why no new blood is staying.
