Ah. Good pedals make a huge difference - there are dedicated MTB flats for fairly intense trail riding with stainless pins that are worth checking out.

My personal favorite are the now-discontinued Kona Wah-Wah. After 3 or so years of commuting in SEA's with it's rain and hills, I haven't had issues with slipping off them.

Fairly light, super strong, and even after years of trail abuse and commuting through winter, the cartridge bearings still spin for days!
