>>1930983it doesn't work like that, the sneltram and metro systems are too different. this is why they were separated in the first place, the amstelveenlijn used to be part of the metro network as a shitty light metro. sure it should have been a heavy rail metro in the first place, but metros were incredibly unpopular for a period after the riots against the zuidoostlijn. running trams on the noord-zuidlijn would absolutely ruin it, and they won't spend funds on converting a tramline (that's already currently being extended) into a metro line, too controversial. tunneling trams stadtbahn style would be great, but i'd say dream a little bigger and invest in an east-west metro instead, possibly extending it to almere and haarlem. trams are simply not sufficient for a city that's as in demand and constantly growing as amsterdam.
