I neither like nor dislike them as vehicles
However, from an urban policy point of view I object to infrastructure concessions to helicopter operators. What ends up happening is that the 100 or so locals who have the ability to influence transport policy end up not caring about say, a high speed rail link to the airport, because who cares if it takes normal people 2 hours when they can just take a helicopter.
You fly into Changi or Chek Lap Kok and it's faster to step on the train to the CBD than it would be to get into a chopper, not so with NYC. Meanwhile BLADE and similar organizations get subsidies and concessions to zoom over people's apartments making a hellish racket so that a few ultra wealthy tycoons don't have to take public transport which as Elon Musk said is totally full of serial killers and stuff.
