Persevere. When you think you're done, you still have 50% left in the tank. Go into robot mode and tune out from the pain. That's how your body adapts. It hates anything out of its comfort zone. It screams at you to stop trying to make it change. Don't submit to your body, make it submit to you.
I now fly up hills that used to cause me to slowly grind or even dismount.
