Your ideal version of living is forcing people in commie blocks where they can be watched, controlled, and own nothing. Maybe suburban and rural living have problems, but building a high speed rail from LA to NYC would not be of any benefit to the average American. Urbanism isn't perfect, even if the government was 100% behind it it wouldn't be ideal.
