>>1252254Day 3 I was riding from Midori to Nikko. Once I got to Nikko I started heading north to Mt. Chausu, but on the advice of a wise restauranteur I decided to head for Lake Chuzenji and cut Chausu from the route to save time and not freeze my ass off. (I had lost a day because the airline fucked up getting my bike on my flight, and getting through the mountains was taking significantly longer than expected)
Although I really wished I'd had a lighter rig, I also really wished I had a heavier sleeping bag. As it was I could do with about 10 degrees overnight, which made sleeping on top of mountains really difficult to impossible. If I ascended that day, I had to be sure I could get down the same day. Made for a somewhat stressful experience later when I got into the proper Japanese Alps.
