My bikepacker is 90s mtb dirt drop build (picrel), my beater is a 90s mtb and my best bike for sunny day pleasure cruising is a NOS 90s mtb.
they are all rigid, most are high quality kightweight steel, although one is aluminium, all have 26'' wheels (except the aforementioned 700c conversion) and they all have completely different characteristics, these bikes are so versatile that they can be adapted to any role, plus bombproof, plus relatively cheap, plus cool af.
