>>1159084Look up the XB-70 Valkyrie. It was supposed to be a supersonic nuclear bomber, which would cruise at high mach across the Atlantic and Europe (with refueling) and then strike the Soviet Union. The project fell apart due to the lack of knowledge building such a large aircraft for such speeds.
British and French didn't want to share information from Concorde, and the Boeing 2707 had been scrapped due to the need for more titanium for the airframe than existed in the world at the time.
At this moment in time, Concorde remains unique for the endurance no other supersonic aircraft has, or has had. Concorde could cross the Atlantic Ocean at Mach 2 after being fueled once. The XB-70 would need to be fueled several times during the flight, and and anything smaller needed to be sent from bases closer to the Soviet Union, which in itself was a flaw.
Only manufacturer who managed to crack the egg that is long range supersonic aircraft was British Aircraft Corporation (BAC), and they proved that with Concorde and the TSR-2.
