cargo ship travel is an old and niche industry but most major shipping companies still provide space for passengers and there are a handful of specialized travel agencies that can make the arrangements for you. it cost me about twice the price of a plane ticket but i just thought of it as staying at a very rural hotel for 18 days with all meals covered and an ocean view.
