>>1901626>Is the bike shown here objectively better than a bike you can buy today (assume prices aren't part of the comparisson) ? No. Because of advances in materials853 is a modern oversized, air hardened tubeset. It's not a vintage material. 853 is top of the line and currently favored by custom builders. You would be looking at around $1200, minimum, to get an 853 frameset only, often a lot more.
>What makes people dig vintage stuff ?excellent ride quality, aesthetic and mechanical charm
Modern vs vintage is also a false dichotomy as the other main parts of a bikes ride, like the tires especially, are interchangeable. People riding nice vintage bikes typically will just buy some expensive modern tires like any other roadie. Rigid 90s mtbfags, the ones boasting high preformance, often do full custom builds. Personally I think most neo-retro setups that have full new groupsets are disgusting but whatever. It's certainly not a poorfag cope.
A new entry level road bike, with a carbon fork and claris, will often run people as much as a high end classic bike and a thorough overhaul, especially if they aren't disciplined about cost cutting on upgrades. And they will hold their value equally badly.
>>1901643>A high-end Columbus/Reynolds tubed bike with 600/Ultegra/Dura-Ace/Campagnolo is better than any current low or mid tier bike available todayAs someone who rides several high end Columbus/Reynolds tubed bikes with 600/Dura-Ace/Campagnolo, I don't agree. They're just different. In many regards an entry level domane or allez for example, has advantages.
>>1901644>My 94 Stumpjumper is better than any Surly everDepends on what it's for. Surly made a better yak butter tourer and sure as fuck many better mtbs purely by virtue of the brake and suspension spec. Your stumpy is better only within its lane as a smooth gravel bike or a beater or maybe a sport tourer.
anyway posting a my bike because this isn't the bickering and autism thread
