When the operation get extended
Tadotsu station and Zentsuji station are additional stops
For this winter, it will be extended to Kotohira for 5 days. (Dec 31, Jan 1, 5, 6, 7). The motivation behind the extension is said to be for the Kotohira shrine. (There seems to be more extended service during spring and fall, up to almost weekly)
However, if the train experienced some delay then the journey could be cut short and terminate at Takamatsu.
