>>2030140Thanks anon, suppose I'll pull the trigger on some bearings today
>>2030145I kind of agree. I don't have much personal xp with surlies but I always hear extremely lukewarm things about how they ride. The components are just very "ok." Mind you I like to wrench and tend to see retro as a plus, so I have a certain viewpoint, but I think this one comes down to how much you value "newness" and if you really feel you need discs. With a budget of even $500 I believe I could have a much lighter and tougher bike
>>2030165Oftentimes freewheeling SS's do; you can easily buy or make one, or just ghetto rig it with a derailer. It's problematic with fixed- spring-loading won't work because it'll just collapse with back pressure, and using a fixed chain tensioner is not impossible but it would need to be heavy to stand up to the torque involved, provides another place for annoying slack to occur and you'd probably end up fiddling with it more. Takes away a lot of the "elegance" that hipsters are after with fixed I suppose. Picrel can be good IME but you need to be lucky to find a ring that works perfectly. Concentric BB shells are common for tandem sync chain tensioning, but good luck setting that up
