New york statistical area: 13,318 sq mi, 20 million pop
dallas-fort worth metroplex: 8,675 sq mi, 7.6 million pop
so while NYC and cities connected by it's transit systems are obviously more dense, dallas is not so hugely far off that dallas suddenly doesnt deserve or is capable of supporting proper rail transit. in fact, berlin has a larger total metro area than dallas-forth worth and less metro density but serves lines nearly out to it's entire area, and the end of those lines are just where it goes from local to regional rail.
