The bike as it is is running fairly well, the gears aren't great, had the bike serviced a month ago and there is this persistent creaking on the down stroke which the shop said was probably the bottom bracket, although they stripped it, cleaned it and refitted etc to no avail, I think it's just the fact that all of the drive train components are cheap, so I just want to get that completely replaced as well as removing the front derailleur and shifter.
Brakes are acceptable too, but having had a go on a mates bike with hydros my mind is made up, I would just like to know which ones to look at. The wheels are what you'd expect, half decent but quite heavy, would love something lighter if possible.
As for the drive train and bottom bracket, never tackled anything like that before, again would like to get light and good quality components.
I use the bike primarily for commuting but i also do a lot of light trail riding in the summer, my aim is to simplify the bikes gearing (I don't ride particularly steep hills and hate front derailleurs), reduce the weight as much as possible while raising the quality of the bike overall.
