>>1587656It's geared for 30mph since I feel safe'ish w/o a helmet around 25mph'ish, faster than downtown traffic, and a reasonable 'oh shit' braking distance at that speed. Range is ~15miles - my commute was 1mi to work + 2mi trips for lunch. I keep another battery pack in a backpack w/ long wires that I wear+plug-in to add range.
I've had a few other ebikes that I've gone 55+mph with - but it's pretty sketch braking (even w/ largest mtb brakes available) and not something traffic expects when on the roadway. Going that fast in a rear hub motor is kinda easy, doing it with a mid-drive w/o lots of throttle dampening will just lift the tires in every gear (lose steering) and eats up derailleurs (clutch style needed at minimum).
Anyways, the ebikes in stores are gay (nylon parts, under amp'ed) and I know ebikes get a bad rap - but I recommend 100% for commuting.
