>>1363169>in the bbgFair enough, I don't normally look at that thread.
>I don't understand why the used road bike market in europe and britain appears to be so shitI don't think it is "shit". The fact that I got a functional '80s road bike for £100 / $125 is pretty great in my view and you can get similar bikes for similar prices. My first one cost £130 I think ($163) - that one got stolen though.
You linked in your BBG post you linked to a Diamondback for $350 / £280. That looks pretty expensive for what it is. I certainly wouldn't buy that bike for that price, you can get better, newer bikes for the same sort of price. E.g. 90s / early 00s Treks in good condition.
So I don't think you're correct at all. In fact I just had a very quick search on eBay and found pic related:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Road-Bike-Trek-1200-Aluminium-Frame-Cover-track-Pump-Helmet-Excellent-Cond/283533746100?hash=item4203ed9fb4:g:WikAAOSwsXxdGhD4#shpCntId'90s Trek for £135 / $170 USD. Looks like a pretty good bike for the price, and I would say it definitely looks in better condition than that Diamondback for £280 (over DOUBLE the price). The Diamondback still has downtube shifters and the Trek has STIs. The Trek also looks newer - in fact it could even be early '00s, I dunno. It could be nearly 10 years newer than the Diamondback, just looking at them. So yeah, I don't think our bike market is bad mate.
