>>1920538I am well aware of the uses and applications of modernist and postmodernist architecture, and do believe that it can work well in certain situations where the designers have time to both thoroughly integrate the structure into its surroundings and can meticulously plan everything in the interior into a single cohesive whole.
However, I believe that most, if not all, mega-infrastructure projects today fail to do that. Competing demands from systems and processes that function at inhuman scale prevent architect from being able to integrate things that ground the building into such a way that humans can for associations or attachments. A Beaux-Arts station is no more or less impressive than a Norman Foster-designed station, but the former allows for motifs and decorative arts at the human scale, as the passengers moving through it can identify with and appreciate small details that are lacking in these modern structures.
