Even on flat road its hard to outspin 36x11 on 2.25" runned on low pressure, and on more steep trails going fast 36x11 is just enough for the biggest gear (althogh 24/38 would be ideal). 32x11 is to low.
which leads to the problem of 22/32/42 -> with that setup youll outspin 32t on trail quite quickly and 42 is a huge overkill and the jump from 32 to 42 is relativly hard + 22t is useless if you run a 11-34 casette, 24 is a much better option.
With double you can also put a bash guard which is a very good thing + keeps the chain in place and adds clearence on palces where 42t get stuck into tree logs so often..
